We are a small farm emphasizing sustainable and ethical practices. Nowadays, organic is simply not enough. It is also important to lower the carbon footprint in food production. We do this by managing the input/output ratio of how much energy we use to produce our food. We measure this in calories, an easy and valid method of measuring inputs and outputs. This allows us to compare ourselves to industrial agriculture. Currently we are 34 times more efficient. We utilize walk-behind tillers and hand labor rather than tractors. Other practices include onsite compost production, sheet mulching, crop rotation and soil-building cover crops.
